Kasmet Rugsėjo pabaigoje Vilniaus Stiklo kvartalas švenčia gimtadienį.
Prieš 475 metus Karalius Žygimantas Augustas leido šiame kvartale įkurti pirmą stiklo manufaktūrą Vilniuje. Nuo to laiko šimtmečiams besikeičiant, šis kvartalas buvo stiklo gamybos ir pardavimo vieta. 19 a. pabaigoje kvartale buvo net trys Stiklo vardo gatvės ir vienas Stiklo skersgatvis.
2022 pavasarį Stiklo kvartale duris užvėrė paskutinė stiklo - vitražo galerija. Jos buvusią vietą vis dar žymi užrašas ant Stiklių g. 6 namo “Vitražo manufaktūra“. Atrodo, nutrūko beveik penkis šimtmečius gyvavusi kultūra. Bet ar tikrai?
Šiandien kvartalas garsėja originaliu svetingumu ir bendruomenės iniciatyvomis. Vasarą virš gatvės „išplaukė“ menininko Petro Saulėno instaliacija - dideli kristalo formos objektai, skirti vitražo kultūros paveldui įvietinti. Buvusios Vitražo galerijos languose menininką pakvietusi gatvių instaliacijų galerija ARTerija patalpino antrą jo parodos „Vitrum“ dalį - šviesdėžėse rodomas, po mikroskopu fotografuoto kvarcinio smėlio - pradinės stiklo medžiagos kristalų plokšteles.
Instaliacija buvo sukurta siekiant prisiminti ir priminti nykstančią stiklo kultūrą. Artėjant Stiklo kvartalo gimtadieniui, kūrinys gatvėje į bendruomenę atvedė naują idėją – padaryti stiklo menininkų pop-up parodą Stiklių gatvės languose. 29 į gatvę žiūrintys langai tampa stiklo meno vitrinomis. Vitražo, pūsto stiklo, skulptūros, instaliacijos ir paveikslai - stiklo menas Stiklių gatvėje. Improvizuotoje, atviroje, visiems prieinamoje gatvės galerijoje savo darbus pristato šie menininkai: Remigijus Kriukas, Indrė Stulgaitė, Eglė Butkutė, Laura ir Paulius Rainiai, Audronė Andriulevičienė, Valda Verikaitė, Irina Peleckienė, Dovilė Lukoševičiūtė, Eglė Rakauskaitė, Rūta Lipaitė, Žydrūnas Mirinavičius ir Vilniaus Dailės Akademijos vitražo katedros studentai.
„Būtume sutalpinę ir daugiau, bet baigėsi langų, tinkamų ekspozicijai kiekis" - sako menininkė, Stiklo kvartalo ambasadorė, galerijos ARTerija kuratorė Julija Janus. "Kitais metais, jeigu bendruomenė sutiks, bandysime užimti daugiau patalpų. Norėjosi pakviesti visus pasivaikščioti Stiklo kvartalu ir pasižvalgyti per langus, užeiti į vidų apžiūrėti stiklo meną iš vidaus ir pajusti tikrą Stiklinio miesto dvasią“.
Obuolys yra šių metų Stiklo kvartalo gimtadienio simbolis, kuris atsispindi ir parodos logotipe. Lipdukai su skaisčiai žaliu kvadratiniu obuoliu ant kvartalo langų žymi vietas, kur už stiklo arba viduje eksponuojamas meno kūrinys. QR kodas lipduke atskleis kūrinio pavadinimą ir jo autorių. Kvadratiniai žali obuoliukai taip pat žymi vietas, kur galima įsigyti stiklo arba paragauti patiekalą iš obuolių. Gimtadienio savaitgalį kvartale įsikūrę restoranai ir parduotuvės svečiams ruošia pintines ir maišus obuolių – nuostabiausio vietinio vaisiaus. Obuoliai atsiras ir kvartalo restoranų, kavinių meniu.
„Ieškok obuolio“ jungtinė paroda vyks nuo rugsėjo 23 d. iki spalio 23 d.

Every year at the end of September, Vilnius Glass Quarter celebrates its birthday.
475 years ago, King Sigismund Augustus gave permission for the first glass manufactory in Vilnius to be established in this quarter. Since then, through the centuries, the Quarter has been a place where glass has been made and sold. At the end of the 19th century, there were three streets named after Glass and one street named Glass.
In the spring of 2022, the last glass and stained glass gallery in the Glass Quarter closed its doors. Its former location is still marked by the inscription on the house at 6 Stiklių Street "Stained Glass Manufactory". A culture that had existed for almost five centuries seems to have come to an end. But has it really?
Today, the neighbourhood is famous for its original hospitality and community initiatives. In the summer, an installation by artist Petras Saulėnas "floated" above the street - large crystal-shaped objects to celebrate the cultural heritage of stained glass. In the windows of the former Stained Glass Gallery, ARTerija, the street installation gallery that invited the artist, placed the second part of his exhibition "Vitrum" - crystal plates of silica sand, the original material of glass, displayed under a microscope in a light box.
The installation was created to remember and recall the disappearing glass culture. As the birthday of the Glass Quarter approached, the work on the street brought a new idea to the community - to make a pop-up exhibition of glass artists in the windows of the Glass Quarter. The 29 windows facing the street become showcases for glass art. Stained glass, blown glass, sculptures, installations and paintings - glass art on Stikļi Street. Remigijus Kriukas, Indrė Stulgaitė, Eglė Butkutė, Laura and Paulius Rainiai, Audronė Andriulevičienė, Valda Verikaitė, Irina Peleckienė, Dovilė Lukoševičiūtė, Eglė Rakauskaitė, Rūta Lipaitė, Žydrūnas Mirinavičius, and the students of the Stained Glass Department of the Vilnius Academy of Arts present their works in this improvised, open, accessible street gallery.
"We could have accommodated more, but we ran out of windows suitable for the exhibition", says Julija Janus, artist, Glass Quarter Ambassador, and curator of ARTerija Gallery. "Next year, if the community agrees, we will try to take more space. We wanted to invite everyone to walk through the Glass Quarter and look out the windows, go inside to see the glass art from the inside and feel the true spirit of the Glass City."
The apple is the symbol of this year's birthday of the Glass Quarter, which is also reflected in the exhibition logo. Stickers with a bright green square apple on the windows of the Quarter mark the places where the artwork is displayed behind or inside the glass. A QR code on the sticker will reveal the name of the artwork and its creator. Square green apples also mark the places where you can buy glass or taste a dish made of apples. On the birthday weekend, restaurants and shops in the quarter will be preparing baskets and bags of apples - the most beautiful local fruit - for guests. Apples will also appear on the menus of the restaurants and cafés in the Quarter.
The "Look for the Apple" joint exhibition will run from 23 September to 23 October.
